Senior Java Backend Developer (Azure)

Job Overview:

The client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Java Backend Developer with strong Azure expertise to support the development of a modern financial solution for claims payment processing.

The project involves building a new finance-focused platform that replaces a legacy claims payment module. This new system is designed to meet evolving regulatory requirements across multiple markets and plays a critical role in calculating payouts, generating financial documents, and integrating with enterprise systems.

The solution operates within a distributed, event-driven architecture and leverages modern cloud technologies, ensuring scalability, resilience, and compliance. The selected consultant will be actively involved in designing, developing, and enhancing backend services while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and develop scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot within a microservices architecture.
• Contribute to the evolution of a finance-oriented platform by implementing new features and enhancing existing capabilities.
• Collaborate with architects and team members to ensure alignment with hexagonal architecture and event-driven design principles.
• Integrate backend services with external systems, including financial platforms, document management systems, and EDI solutions.
• Develop and maintain APIs for document handling, status tracking, and system communication.
• Ensure reliable processing workflows, including support for restartable processes and message re-delivery mechanisms.
• Work with Azure cloud services such as Event Hub, Storage, and Cosmos DB to build robust and scalable solutions.
• Implement secure communication protocols, including message queue integrations with appropriate authentication mechanisms.
• Participate in CI/CD processes using Azure DevOps pipelines and contribute to DevSecOps best practices.
• Maintain high code quality and security standards using tools such as static and dynamic analysis frameworks.
• Support containerization and deployment activities using Docker and OpenShift environments.
• Monitor system performance and logs using enterprise monitoring tools and proactively address issues.
• Collaborate in agile teams, contributing to sprint planning, development, and continuous improvement initiatives.

Required Skills:

• Strong proficiency in Java and Spring Boot (high level)
• Experience with microservices architecture
• Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps and CI/CD pipelines
• Familiarity with container platforms such as Docker and OpenShift
• Experience with NoSQL databases (e.g., MongoDB or Cosmos DB)
• Knowledge of event-driven systems and streaming platforms (e.g., Kafka or similar)
• Basic understanding of infrastructure as code tools such as Terraform
• Familiarity with messaging systems (e.g., WebSphere MQ)
• Exposure to database versioning tools such as Liquibase
• Understanding of Azure cloud services

Experience:

• Minimum 6–8 years of experience in backend development, with a strong focus on Java-based enterprise applications
• Proven experience working with cloud-based and distributed systems

Education:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field

Language Requirements:

• English – Proficient

Additional Requirements:

• Strong understanding of DevSecOps principles and secure coding practices
• Ability to work effectively in a fully onsite, collaborative environment

Work Environment:

The role is based at the client’s location in Lindholmen and requires full on-site presence. The consultant will be part of a dynamic, agile team working on a business-critical financial platform with a strong focus on innovation, scalability, and compliance.
