Overview
As a Critical Environment Technician (CET) in Microsoft’s Cloud Operations & Innovation (CO+I) team, you will maintain the critical infrastructure that keeps our datacenters operational. This includes coordinating with suppliers and vendors, working closely with management to address operational, risk, and safety situations, mentoring other CE Technicians, and maintaining a hands‑on understanding of critical environment equipment. You will perform various types of maintenance, respond to onsite incidents in coordination with other critical facilities professionals, and use telemetry and other platforms to monitor equipment performance and operations.

Responsibilities
- Serve as an operations specialist in a major area of critical environment operations (e.g., electrical, mechanical, controls, generators), performing advanced tasks independently.
- Inspect and supervise critical environment equipment, buildings, and grounds to identify unsafe or abnormal conditions and escalate per applicable policies and standards.
- Utilize internal computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) to track equipment assets and complete maintenance work orders.
- Safely respond to and lead onsite incident response efforts for abnormal conditions impacting operations, coordinating corrective repairs without supervision.
- Develop, enhance, or follow emergency operating procedures (EOPs), methods of procedure (MOPs), and standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to CE operations and incidents.
- Perform planned, predictive, and corrective maintenance and repairs in accordance with approved MOPs and SOPs, escalating issues when appropriate.
- Demonstrate hands‑on expertise in troubleshooting equipment, systems, subsystems, and components within trained disciplines.
- Provide guidance and consultation to junior colleagues during troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Understand, follow, and ensure compliance with safety, security, environmental health and safety (EH&S), and business process requirements, including job hazard assessments (JHAs) and toolbox talks.

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and relevant experience in mission‑critical services or applied learning environments (e.g., data centers, oil and gas refineries, hospitals, pharmaceutical or manufacturing facilities), or equivalent experience.
- Relevant experience in a specialized field (e.g., mechanical, electrical, or controls).
- Ability to work shifts, including non‑standard hours such as evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays.
Background Check Requirements
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements.
- Successful completion of the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent and extensive experience in mission‑critical services environments, or
- Associate’s Degree or technical trade certification (e.g., military, trade school) or higher‑level education and relevant mission‑critical services experience, or
- Equivalent experience.
This position will be open for a minimum of five days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until the role is filled.
